I'Ve Been Taking Birth Control Pills For A Year 1/2 Now (Ortho Trycycle) Anyway, Ive Always Been The Same Size And Had The Same Eatting Habbits...But Over The Year 1/2 Ive Put On Some Extra Weight...I Heard You Can Either Gain Or Lose Weight From Birth Control Pills But I Wasnt Sure If This Was True Or Not. On On My Last Month Of Pills And Was Considering Stop Taking Them To See If I Drop Some Weight. Does Anyone Have Any Info On This Situation?
I gained weight when I was on the pill (like 5 lbs). I just went off of Yaz last week and I swear I peed all day long lol. I really did lose 2 lbs. within the first 2 days I was off of the pill (I must have just been retaining water).

I Started Anti Anxiety Meds Because My Iud Was Giving Me Mood Problems, So After I Realized It Was The Iud Giving Me Those Symptoms I Switch To Pills. I Took Prozac 40Mg Together With Birth Control, And I Stopped Going To The Gym As Much But Was Still Eating Controlled Portions. After About 4Months Of This Combination Of Pills I Quit Work And Started School Which Was Very Stressful, So I Started Gaining More Weight But I Started Taking Weight Lost Pills That My Dr Prescribed Me, So I Control The Weight For A Short Period Of Time After That 1St Semester I Stopped The Gym Completely And The Weight Lost Pills. write down what you eat and what you do (exercise) that should show if you are eating the wrong bits or not. then you can see if a sandwich (for example) has really high saturated fat and by changing your filling you could make it much healthier. get to know the labels on food. or simply eat unprocessed foods (things you cook yourself from fresh, loads of veg and fruit.
if you are eating healthily and exercising but not getting healthier then you need to look at portion size. have a drink before meals will help your brain think you are full. soups take longer to clear you stomach meaning you feel fuller for longer.
also think about ways of getting more exercise: cycle to work, take the stairs instead of the lift, do some push ups, sit ups, jogging as soon as you get home at the end of the day.

Metformin is not only prescribed for diabetics but can also be prescribed for women suffering from PCOS and just for weight loss so it's not that surprising if a bit has come off. (But to be honest if you have been watching what you eat then I think that would have a bigger effect so congratulations : )
You can eat whatever you want when taking Metformin. I am on Metformin at the moment as well and I have noticed that I can not eat the same foods as I used to do as I feel quite sick. Citrus fruits are out as are greasy foods (so not all bad I guess). However a common side effect of Metformin is stomach upsets and this can affect some people with regards to what they eat.
I really think that you should focus on trying to eat healthily rather than whether it is the Metformin that is making you loose weight. The end goal is to be so healthy that you do not require any pills so any weight loss should be from a healthy lifestyle instead. Are you exercising as well? I found that just walking about 30 mins a day helped stabilized my blood sugars (as well as helping me to loose weight and get fitter).
Don't beat yourself up about cheating every once and a while. There is nothing wrong with that. Perhaps if you are finding it difficult to cut out some foods why don't you have 1 day a month when you can have anything you want (a pizza or go out for a meal etc). I always found my problem was I couldn't go 'cold turkey' and would always cheat but by setting aside a day when I was free to eat what I wanted I could resist temptation and didn't feel guilty at all. So long as you are eating healthier for the rest of the month (and totally don't go over board) then setting aside one day won't make much difference to your diet over all.
